What to see:
Travelers may take a walking tour in and
around the grounds of Daikaku-ji. Inside
you will find paintings from the 15th to 18th
centuries, Buddhist Sculptures, Calligraphy,
Ikebana, and other works of art.
Daikaku-ji is also home to Japan's oldest
artificaial pond. Osawa Pond was designed
for boaoting and is and excelent site for
seeing spring cherry blossoms and autumn
maple leaves.
Brief History:
Daikaku-ji Temple was originally one of the Emperor Saga's retirement villas, it was
converted to a temple and given the name "Daikaku-ji" in 876 after the Emperor had
passed away. The temple later came into ruin but in 1307 Emperor Go Uda became
the priest and had the temple reconstructed along with the formation of the
Daikaku-ji-to
