doctor at Kyoto University, Kyoto was built to
withstand the forces of both major
earthquakes and typhoons.  Claims say it
can withstand wind speeds of up to 210
mph.  The tower opened to the public on
December 28, 1965.  Within its first year of
opening, 1 million people visited the tower's
observation deck.  Throughout the years,
the tower's draw as a tourist attraction has
greatly diminished.  Currently it is estimated
that the yearly ticket sales are less than
400,000 a year or around 1,000 per day.
What to see:

Kyoto Tower is split into two distinct structures.  The primary structure is the steel spire
that begins from atop the roof of the building below.  Tourist may choose to ride the on
of the towers 100 meter (330 ft) high, 500 person capacity observation deck.  Here
one will fine game machines as well as pay telescopes along with the 360 degree view
of the city.

The second structure that the tower rests upon is a 9 story building.   Floors 1-4
consist of several commercial spaces such as a souvenir shop, a 100 yen shop, a
books store and more.  Floors 5-9 are taken up by the 160 room Kyoto Tower Hotel.
Directly atop the 9 floors is a circular, the floor restaurant named the Sky Lounge.

How to get there:

Kyoto Tower is located in front of
Kyoto Station.  It is a quick 1 min walk and is very
hard to miss.  The prime location of the hotel makes for easy site seeing.
